Sacred Harp Shape Note Singing

Saturday May 31, 2025   1:30 – 3:30 pm  – Sacred Harp Singing

MUSO is pleased to announce that we will be hosting the Sacred Harp Shape Note Singing at 2040 Winnebago St. in Madison.

The Sacred Harp is a tune book in the shapenote singing tradition, a 200 year-old American style of singing hymns a cappella in four-part harmony.  Shapenote refers to the shape of the notes. which helps with sight singing.  Handouts and books will be available.

Carol Crawford will teach a selection of traditional shapenote hymns, including how to sing the shapes and the rudiments of leading and pitching.

We ask that you attend only if you are feeling healthy and have not recently been exposed to a cold or other illness.   If you are not feeling well, please join us another time.
