Cajun Jam

Cajun Jam: March 12 & April 2nd, 2026 4PM – 6:00 PM

Venez jammer de la musique Cajun!

The Jam is open to all levels of ability and familiarity with Cajun music.  We plan to begin playing in the keys of D/A, so fiddlers don’t have to “tune down as is often the preference when playing the same tunes in C/G, making it easier to play and chord on new tunes.  Guitarists may want to have a capo to avoid bar/choke chords.

Accordionists will be Tom Nickel (Cajun Strangers) and Tom Klein (Cajun Spice Band).  But we hope there will be a few others!  Fiddlers and guitarists from Madison’s Cajun band community, past and present, will support those sections.  MUSO has a piano and upright bass.  Mandolins and other string instruments most welcome.  Unfortunately, banjos are not played in Cajun music, but we’d not turn a chording banjo away.

There will be a list of tunes we played in earlier jams.  We will have for a few songs the words and chords.  Note, Cajun music is typically played by ear, so bring your well-tuned ears along!  Do not hesitate to suggest tunes you know or have heard and would like to try out either as musician or vocalist.
