About Us

Muso Madison

Muso is a place to support, develop, and foster local acoustic musicians of various genres, and to share the joy of making and appreciating music.

The Name

mu·so  /ˈmyo͞ozō/

Noun

  1. Music nerd.
  2. Music geek.

Adjective

  1. Without Equal.
  2. Unmatched.

The Venue

Built in 1930 in the Art Deco style, the building that now houses Muso was designed by Architects Livermore and Barnes. Originally known as the Ellefson Commercial Building, 2040 Winnebago Street was once home to a post office, and later housed the Midwest Clay Project.  The building currently contains 6 residential apartment homes, and one commercial space that is the new home for Muso. In a city where many landmark buildings are being torn down to make way for new glitzy structures, we are thrilled to be located in a building with deep Madison community roots.

If you’ve ever thought to yourself that having access to a club house for musicians would be super cool, you’ll definitely want to check out Muso!

Location

Located at the corner of Winnebago St. and Sutherland court, Muso is situated in the heart of the Atwood Neighborhood.

Unique Space

Over 1700 Square Feet of mostly-open space provides plenty of space for groups of musicians to share the joy of playing together, and to enjoy performances.

Acoustics

Thoughtful acoustic design means that Muso is a space where acoustic musicians can truly hear themselves and others. From our acoustically isolated stage to our house Ear Trumpet Labs mics, at Muso, the music is the focus.
